Connect Codex
Add TradeSender to OpenAI's Codex with one command, allow it in your browser, and work on your records from a terminal.
Codex is OpenAI's coding assistant. You need its command-line tool installed on your computer, and your TradeSender sign-in. For ChatGPT in a browser, follow Connect ChatGPT.
Connect
-
In TradeSender, open Settings, then Connected apps, and choose Codex. Beside Codex, choose Copy command.

-
Paste the command into your terminal and run it:
codex mcp add tradesender --url https://app.tradesender.co.uk/mcp -
Codex sees that TradeSender needs a sign-in and opens your browser on TradeSender. Sign in if it asks, check the workspace the page names, and choose Allow.
-
Start Codex and ask "What's on tomorrow?".
If the browser did not open, or you need to sign in again later, run:
codex mcp login tradesender
Inside Codex, /mcp lists the servers it is using. TradeSender should be among them.
Read the Allow page
Before you choose Allow, check three things:
- The workspace. If you belong to more than one, it names the one you are signed in to.
- What it can do. An owner or office member sees "It can read and change customers, quotes, jobs, visits, invoices and payments, and email quotes and invoices to customers." A technician sees a shorter line.
- Where it sends you back. For an app running on your own computer, the page says "Allowing sends you back to an app on this device. Only allow this if you started it yourself just now." Allow it only if you ran the command a moment ago.
You have 30 minutes from running the command to choosing Allow. After that, run codex mcp login tradesender.
Where Codex keeps it
Codex saves the server in its settings file, ~/.codex/config.toml. OpenAI's documentation says the Codex command line, its editor extension and the ChatGPT desktop app share that file, so you add TradeSender once for all three.
Check it, or remove it
| You want to | Run |
|---|---|
| See the servers Codex has | codex mcp list |
| Sign out, and keep TradeSender listed | codex mcp logout tradesender |
| Remove TradeSender from Codex | codex mcp remove tradesender |
| See every command | codex mcp --help |
Removing it from Codex changes Codex only. To end the connection in TradeSender, open Settings, then Connected apps, choose Codex, and choose Disconnect beside it under Connected. See Disconnect an assistant.
OpenAI keeps the commands in its own page, Model Context Protocol. If one here stops working, that page is the one to trust.
Before it changes anything
TradeSender tells every assistant to say what it is about to do and wait for your yes before it emails a customer or records money. That is an instruction to the assistant. TradeSender does not hold anything back if the assistant goes ahead. Ask Codex to show you a quote or invoice before it sends it, and read what it says it is about to do. See Before it sends anything.
If it does not connect
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| Codex cannot reach the server, before any sign-in | Check the address in the command is exactly https://app.tradesender.co.uk/mcp, with nothing after mcp. |
| "This connection request has expired." | More than 30 minutes passed. Run codex mcp login tradesender. |
| "TradeSender doesn't recognise this app." | Try once more. If it happens again, run codex mcp remove tradesender and add it again. |
| It worked, and now Codex says it needs a sign-in | The connection ended: you disconnected it, your password changed, or you were removed from the workspace. Run codex mcp login tradesender and allow it again. |
Every other message is in If an assistant will not connect.
